The Kite Runner

A friend of mine, an English teacher in a neighboring county, recommended the book The Kite Runner to me. I read it and have to say that it was one of the last books that I've read that I absolutely couldn't put down until I'd finished it. In our local newspaper today, there was an article about it. A concerned mother wants the book removed from her child's high school reading list. Incidentally, her child is not in the class that has the book on its list. MK and I were just talking about it last night. She asked if she could read it, and I told her that she wasn't ready yet; it was more high school appropriate. Now this article made me think. The concerned mother submitted a five page list of things she found objectionable. I admit, the reason that I would not want MK to read it now is due to a shocking crime depicted in the book. I would love to read the list, though, to see five pages of objections. So, I'm just curious if anyone out there has read the book, or heard about it, and what you might think.
