Game night!!!

We had game night last night. We played a couple of rounds of "Apples to Apples" and Wii bowling, and it was a fun family time. With busy schedules, we have to find time when we can. Here is a photo of MK and the Big Man when the game was getting intense.

Hockey night in Florida

Technically, it was hockey afternoon, but we enjoyed it anyway. After a long delay, the hockey season finally opened. Since I am from the Philadelphia area, I am a big Flyers fan. The Big Man's roots are in Pittsburgh, so they are Penguins fans. He has had a greater influence on MK's sports preferences, and she is a Penguins and Steelers fan. At least I have influenced one choice, because she says she likes the Phillies. She has a very good friend who loves the Penguins, so we invited her over for the game.

I thought that it would be fun to have foods from Philly and Pitt. I made Philly cheesesteaks, and we had Tastykakes and Herr's chips. We tried to find some local Pittsburgh foods, but that was more challenging. We ended up with Clark bars and Klondike bars and used Heinz ketchup on our cheesesteaks - not exactly healthy eating, but it was still fun. The Flyers may not have won, but it was still a fun day.

Old school photos

MK brought out some old pictures. I loved this one of MK, T. Willy and a friend from a couple of years ago.

A sharp dressed man.

The Big Man sent me a picture of T. Willy at the bus stop today. I thought he was looking pretty sharp in his new clothes.

RTR

I really have no personal preference, but I'm pulling for Alabama tonight in the National Championship game. I wanted to put this out there before the game starts. There was a sea of Alabama shirts today at school, so for them, and for negative feelings toward Notre Dame felt in our home - Roll Tide Roll.

Whew!

So we are heading back to school tomorrow. It's been a nice long break, and I'm ready to finish this semester and enter into the new one. June will be here before we know it - and I'll be the mother of a high school graduate. There are big things ahead!

MK was part of a small group musical that is going to perform at the State Thespian festival in Tampa. We will go in March, and we're already making plans. Here are a few pictures that she took during the weekend. The one with 4 girls is the group that will be performing.

Districts Day 2.

Oh my. I'm finally home and getting ready for bed. We had a great time at Districts!!! Last year we earned two Excellents, and this year we earned Seven! It was very encouraging for our students, and they're eager for next year already.

However, some of these kids (MK) are seniors, and I'm really going to miss them. We had a lot of fun together. It isn't over; we do have some projects before the year is over.

So I'll include a picture I took while we were having lunch. We were just sitting around, and I was trying the panoramic feature. You'll notice that it looks like one of the girls' face is falling off. She did it deliberately to see what happened.

Districts - Day 1

We had a very full day watching one acts. There were some really good ones. Our school performed and made us very proud. Tomorrow we will watch IE's, there will be awards, and then we will know if we're sending anyone to State.

The Big Man took off today and tomorrow to spend with Ty so that I could go to the Thespian Festival. They went bowling today, so here are a couple of pictures that he sent.

The show must go on....

Our District Thespian Festival starts tomorrow. It seems a little inconvenient, because we're still on Christmas Break, but this is the only time that the building was available, so we've been working on it all day. We have several I.E.'s (individual events) and a one act - basically a short play. It's a lot of fun but also a lot of preparation. The kids have a great time doing it though, and if they perform well and get high enough scores, we can go to State in March like we did last year.

So here is a picture of our rehearsal while waiting for the set to dry. MK is in the maroon blouse.

The kids are home!!!

Both of their flights were on time, and everything went smoothly! Their luggage didn't make it, because they had to run to catch their connecting flight, but they should be delivering it tonight by 10:30. I was pleasantly surprised by their on time flights. That hasn't happened for us in quite awhile.

They've settled back in quickly. T. Willy was excited by the changes to his room, and MK already has some friends over to rehearse for Thespian competition this weekend. We are having rehearsal again tomorrow, so I suppose our break is over. We have fun at the festival, so I'm really looking forward to it.

January 1.

The kids come home tomorrow. That is the biggest news today. I have been able to have some alone time and have gotten a lot done around the house, but I miss the kids!!! I really hope the flights are all on time and that everything goes smoothly for them.

The Big Man and I went to a movie tonight. We saw "Jack Reacher," and I really enjoyed it. The Big Man has read all of Lee Child's books, so I may have to read them now.

Not much else to report right now. It was a dreary but warm day here - 70!!!! I can get used to this, but I suspect we will see more cool weather before it's warm for good. After Christmas, I'm ready for warm weather. My first seed catalog of the year arrived on the 26th, so I'm in the mood to start cleaning the garden and getting it ready.

Here is a picture that my mom sent of their last night playing games.
