Saying goodbye

Even though we'll see him again in two weeks, it was hard to say goodbye to the Big Man this morning. We are at the airport now, though, and should be home in a few hours. Here is a picture I took as we left the hotel.

A day at the fair

We had so much fun at the fair. It started with me getting to drive a new Camaro. It is my favorite new car. I cannot even describe it. It drove like a dream. They gave me a t-shirt and some bags; the souvenirs alone made it worthwhile.

Then we walked around the fair. We saw exhibits and rode rides and just had a fun family day.

T. Willy is reading over my shoulder. He wants you to know that he loved everything except the cows and goats.

Another great day

We went to the Texas Schoolbook Depository Museum today. It was really interesting.

Then we drove out to Plano where the Big Man lived as a kid. We saw his schools and the house where he lived. I loved getting to see all of that.

We shopped and ate and had another really fun day. I'm already a little emotional about having to leave Tuesday. Tomorrow we go to the Texas State Fair. That should be a lot of fun.

I'm having trouble posting here. I'm not sure why, but I've tried to post pictures, and they aren't all working, but I'll give it another try.

Ceviche...my new love.

I've heard of it and seen it on tv, but today I tried it for the first time. I loved it!

Texas-sized fun!

What a wonderful day!!!

The Big Man had to work today, so the kids and I found something fun to do. Six Flags over Texas is pretty much across the street from our hotel, so we went there. A trolley picked us up at the hotel and delivered us right to the park.

It was pouring rain when we got there. Only 3 rides were open, but we determined that we were going to make the best of it. We bought rain ponchos (instant souvenirs) and rode what we could. The weather cleared, and more rides opened. The lines were short for the rest of the day, and it never got hot. A kid gave T. Willy a basketball which made him so happy. MK was a dream the whole day...I couldn't have asked for more fun unless the Big Man could have joined us.

The Big Man picked us up from the park after work, and we went out to eat. We had a great night. Then we went to the Walmart right by the Cowboys' stadium. I am not a Cowboy fan, but wow...the stadium is gorgeous!

Now pictures!

The winner

T. Willy won a treat at scouts tonight. He chose well....at least for me. They're my favorite cookies!

Game night

T. Willy's grandparents sent him some money the other day. He spent it very wisely. He bought a book and a game and still had change! The game is a fishing game, and he and MK and I played it tonight. Pictures!

Bus fun

MK went to an away game on Friday. Here are a couple of pictures of her and her friend on the way there.

Shooting Day

We had an outing for scouts today. T. Willy had his first chance to shoot a b.b. gun. He really enjoyed it, so I suspect there's more in our future.

The party's over

We were exhausted today, so I have no new pictures. Here is a picture at the end of the dance last night when the cleanup had already begun.

Homecoming Fun

Tonight is the Homecoming Dance. MK's friends met at our house, and I'm taking them to dinner, then I'm going to the dance with them to chaperone. We had a photo session first, so here are pictures.

Second is better than third.

Our float came in second, but I'm pretty happy with that. The Seniors came in first, and I was kind of expecting that.

We won the game 47-6. It was a lot of fun. We had the parade and a pep rally today and enjoyed all of the festivities. So here are pictures of much of it.

Pretty in pink

Today was a pretty long day. We arrived at school at 6:40 and left at 8:30. Of course, they are am and pm. Whew. But the float is pretty ready for tomorrow, and I'm really pleased with how it looks.

Since tomorrow is homecoming, it's been Spirit Week. Today was class color day. The Sophomore class color is pink, so here is a picture of MK and friends in their pink.

Busy.

I'm not the kind of person who likes to be on the go all the time. But it hasn't been up to me lately. This week I've been working on a homecoming float which has taken a lot of time after school. It will be finished tomorrow, and I think it's turning out well. It's judged, and it isn't expected that the Freshman class will win, but I'm hopeful that we'll make a good showing. The kids have put a lot of work into it, and I'd love to see that work rewarded. So I'll post pictures of the finished product Friday, but here is a preview.

Happy Labor Day!

MK spent the day shopping with her friends for Homecoming dresses. They had great success and are ready for Saturday night. We have a tremendously busy week ahead of us, so it's good to have that out of the way.

T. Willy and I also shopped today. We had moderate success, but we found that "Five Guys" is now open. We have eaten at one near my brother's house and are happy to have one here. So that's today's picture.

In the tent

We managed to get MK to join us. Three games of "Go Fish" and now we're telling stories. Don't you wish you were here?

Tonight's sleeping quarters

Since there is no school tomorrow, T. Willy asked me to put up the tent. It's supposed to get to 65 tonight, so I was happy to do it. (If you look closely, you can see T. Willy and the Big Man in the pool.) The Big Man and MK aren't interested, but I'm looking forward to it. There is also a chance of rain...so I'm glad it's close to the house.

Like mother, like daughter.

I am posting a picture of MK with permission. There's a story behind it. However, in order to tell hers, I need to tell one about myself.

The Big Man and T. Willy usually leave the football games at halftime, because T. gets bored. That's what they did last night. So I stay and take MK home. That's what we did last night. Since MK has to get to the game so early, she's pretty hungry by the time we go home.

Last night we stopped at the Burger King drive-thru on the way home. I ordered and paid and they handed me the drinks...and I started to drive away. MK asked, "Where are you going?". I was about 2 feet from the window and realized I was driving away without her food. I tried to back up, but the people behind me had already moved up. So I was stuck away from the window without her food. And I started laughing. I mean laughing so hard that I couldn't catch my breath. The employee was able to reach the food to me, and he started laughing too. I think it's the first time I've ever done that, but I assured MK that it's only going to get worse. She didn't disagree.

So, here's her story. I took MK and two of her sweet friends shopping for dresses to wear to the Homecoming Dance next Saturday. We didn't have much luck shopping, but we had a fun day. We did find what we're calling a "backup" dress. MK likes it but doesn't love it. However, the price couldn't be beaten, so we bought it. She had just tried it on, and we were standing in line to pay for it when her friend looked at her and realized that she'd put her shirt on backwards. MK fell to the floor laughing, and I was able to snap a picture of it. I smile every time I look at it, and I hope you will too.

Before

It's Friday night, and I'm back at the field. Tonight is the first football game of the season. I brought MK early for Color Guard, then I worked in my room for a while. Now I'm in the stands watching people show up and waiting for the Big Man and T. Willy to join me. This is seriously my favorite way to spend a Friday night. Now, as soon as the sun goes down, it will be just right!!! Play ball!!!
