Pictures of New Orleans

We went to New Orleans this weekend. This was the first time I'd been back since Katrina hit. My father in law took us on a tour of the area. There are not words to describe it. So, I hope these pictures do what my words can't.

The first picture is where the breach occurred at the 17th Street canal.

Picture #2 is a house that looks kind of old - not sure it could have withstood much.

But these houses in #3 are new...Look at the damage to them. The first 3 pictures are all from Lakeview, a middle class to upper middle class suburb. Also, note the water line in the middle of the house.

The fourth picture is from the Lower 9th Ward. Note that it is a through street and the house that floated into the middle of it.

More from the Lower 9th Ward. This was not an upscale neighborhood but it was not the projects either. The homes were owner occupied and it is just devastated for blocks and blocks and blocks. The Big Man said it is what he imagines a war zone to look like after a bomb hit. In the suburbs where the family live, there are Fema trailers all over the place. It looks like they all own RV's except that you can see the sewer lines hooked up in the front yard. There are no Fema trailers in the Lower 9th Ward. There are no kids running around. The only cars that we saw running were doing what we were doing...just taking it all in. There is no life there at all.

Wow. Amazing images. Alot of hard work and prayer are still needed, there.
